Public Sector

Specialist Deaf-led support for councils, NHS bodies, housing providers and health and social care partnerships.

Public sector organisations face a specific challenge: you serve a diverse population that includes Deaf and hard-of-hearing people at every point of contact, and you have legal duties to make your services accessible.

We understand that procurement processes, budgets and commissioning structures can make this complicated. We're here to make it straightforward.

What we provide:

Hearing loops for public-facing counters and reception areas A counter loop at a reception desk is one of the single most effective investments a public service can make. We assess, supply, install and test to BS 8300.

Meeting rooms and consultation spaces Portable and fixed hearing loops for rooms where interviews, assessments, appointments and hearings take place. Ensuring people can participate fully in decisions that affect them is a legal and ethical responsibility.

Telecare and alerting systems We work with housing providers and care commissioners on visual and vibrating alerting systems: doorbells, smoke alarms, bed-shakers and paging systems for Deaf and hard-of-hearing residents in social housing, care homes and supported living.

Assessments and access audits We can carry out a listening environment assessment of your buildings and spaces, identify gaps, and produce a prioritised recommendations report.

Equality Act 2010 and the duty to make reasonable adjustments Organisations have a legal duty to make reasonable adjustments so that Deaf and disabled people are not substantially disadvantaged when accessing your services. A broken or missing hearing loop is not a reasonable adjustment it's a gap. We help you close it.

Social value and procurement Working with iHear means your spending contributes directly to Deaf Action's charitable work. We can support your social value reporting with evidence of community impact.
