About iHear
Deaf-led. Practically minded. Here because access matters.
iHear is a Deaf-led assistive technology service run by Deaf Action, one of the oldest Deaf charities in the world. Since 1835, we exist to improve access, independence and inclusion for Deaf and hard-of-hearing people.
We help individuals, families, employers and organisations find, set up and get the most from the right hearing technology. That means honest advice, proper installation, and aftercare that doesn't stop the moment the equipment is delivered.
When you buy from iHear, you are contributing to a service that employs Deaf people, invests in Deaf communities, and puts lived experience at the heart of everything it does.
If you have feedback, a complaint, or just want to say something went well, we'd love to hear from you.
Why we exist
Deaf Action has been supporting Deaf and hard-of-hearing people since 1927. Over nearly a century, one thing has remained constant: access to the right technology, set up properly and explained clearly, changes lives.
iHear was created to make that access easier. Too many people are living with technology that doesn't work for them or going without technology they don't know exists. Too many organisations have hearing loops that have never been tested, or radio aid systems gathering dust because no one was shown how to use them properly.
We exist to close that gap.
What makes us different
We are Deaf-led.
Our team includes Deaf and hard-of-hearing people. That's not a box we tick but the reason our advice is grounded in lived experience rather than product brochures. We know what it actually feels like to struggle to hear in a meeting, to rely on subtitles, or to feel embarrassed asking someone to repeat themselves for the fourth time.
We are honest.
We will not recommend something more expensive than you need. We will tell you if we think a different route such as a local authority service, a different supplier, or simply a different product would serve you better. We would rather be useful than make a sale.
We are practical.
We don't stop at the sale. We install, configure, demonstrate, follow up and support. Good equipment, set up properly and understood by the person using it, is transformative. Equipment in a box in a cupboard is not.
Every purchase contributes to Deaf Action.
When you buy from iHear, the surplus goes back into Deaf Action's work of supporting Deaf people, providing BSL services, advocating for better access, and building a more inclusive society. You are not funding a shareholder. You are funding a mission.
